Infusion pumps

Infusion pumps are medical devices used to deliver parenteral drugs under pressure at a controlled flow rate. Medicare covers external infusion pumps for various conditions. If Medicare covers the infusion pump for a patient, then drugs and needed supplies would also be covered for that patient.

An order (prescription) must be on file with the supplier. It must be signed and dated by the treating doctor.

Your supplier should complete a DIF. That DIF will note the types of drugs that require the use of the pump and the routes (by vein or under the skin) and methods of administration (continuous or intermittent).
