Manual Wheelchair

If a walker can't meet your needs, then the question a doctor must ask is if there is any type of manual wheelchair that will allow you to accomplish these activities in the home? If yes, then a home assessment will be done - likely by phone, to ensure that you can use a manual chair in your home. There are a number of different manual wheelchair categories, based on your ability to propel the chair, your height and weight and certain accessories you may need.

An order (prescription) must be on file with the supplier. It must be signed and dated by the treating doctor. Also, supporting documentation for the medical need of this item must be on file. Manual wheelchairs are in the Capped Rental category of DME; that means you may choose to rent or purchase a manual wheelchair.
